Outsourced CFO – While institutional quality financial controls are essential to
securing outside capital, employing a full-time CFO often doesn’t make sense for
an early-stage firm. Mount Ocean serves as outsourced CFO or helps guide
building a firm’s finance function, usually with the goal of bringing these business
functions in-house over time.


Business Consulting – Determining if a founder can run an investment
business and retain their team is the key non-investment question allocators
must answer when backing an early-stage manager. Mount Ocean’s retainer-
based consulting practice helps address the operations and people risks that so
often undermine promising firms.

 

Capital FormationMount Ocean’s capital formation terms are discounted
relative to the market for similar services and typically charged over a longer time
period exerting less economic drag on an emerging firm’s P&L during its critical
formative years.


We rely on our investment underwriting and capital formation skills
to bet on a manager’s marketability and engage under GP-friendly terms so
clients can spend money where it matters most: on paying their people and
executing their strategy.

Capital Formation

Securing meaningful capacity with differentiated niche managers, especially when they are launching or in their early years, can be essential to the success of an investment program. Often such managers are scarcely marketed and/or hamstrung by costly financing relationships making them difficult to source or un-investable. 

Mount Ocean identifies strategies proprietarily as well as sourced by allocators looking to back or help a manager scale. We represent investors launching their firms and existing managers seeking to broaden their LP base or institutionalize their business. Mount Ocean’s CIO and partners personally invest in any firm we bring to market.
